Protecting Vulnerable Children and Adults on the Autistic Spectrum.

Perth Concert Hall –Wednesday 21st May 2008

Study Day organised by the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) Scotland and the Scottish Autism Service Network (SASN).  To be chaired by Dr Kirsten Stalker, Reader in Disability Research, Strathclyde University.  Speakers include Dr Iain McClure, Penny Ellingham, Ronnie Barnes and Jill Slicher.

This study day is aimed at those working in the police, health, education and social work.

New adult protection procedures are coming into force under the Adult Care and Support Act (Scotland) 2007 and existing legislation covers child protection procedures. Communication with vulnerable people on the autistic spectrum is key to helping them to be safe. Procedures will only work if we know how to communicate with people with special needs.

This study day will focus on skilled assessments including the use of case examples to help us help some very special people be safe.
